Lore Description

Kaelthas is the counterpoint to Zeraphiel’s solemn menace — a tiefling weaponsmither who thrives on laughter, pranks, and irresistible charm. His creations often straddle the line between lethal weapon and practical joke, such as exploding chalices and cursed jewelry that embarrasses more than kills. He is loved and loathed in equal measure.

  • Personality: Charismatic, irreverent, smirking as though life is a jest only he understands.
  • Weird Hobby: Creates enchanted dice and trick items — each with a catch that usually humiliates the user.
  • Social Role: Less revered than Zeraphiel but more desired. A favorite among noble women and rogues alike.

Features

  • Infernal Legacy (Tiefling): Thaumaturgy; Hellish Rebuke (2nd‑level); Darkness (1/day).
  • Prankster’s Edge: Once per short rest, he may turn a missed attack against him into a slapstick accident (attacker falls prone or drops weapon).
  • Master of Distraction: When Kaelthas uses a bonus action to taunt, enemies within 15 ft. must succeed a DC 16 Wis save or have disadvantage on their next attack.
  • Collaborator: When fighting alongside Zeraphiel or Malrik, gains +2 to AC (watching each other’s backs).

Combat Actions

  • Multiattack. Kaelthas makes two attacks with his Trickblade Rapier.
  • Trickblade Rapier +2. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1d8 + 4 piercing + 1d6 psychic (from mocking enchantments).
  • Illusionary Gambit (Recharge 5–6). Creates 1d4 illusory doubles for 1 minute; each has AC 12 and vanishes on a hit.
  • Hellish Rebuke. (2nd‑level, 1/day) 3d10 fire; Dex save DC 16 halves.

Legendary Actions (Optional)

If used as a boss, Kaelthas can take 2 legendary actions per round, choosing from below at the end of another creature’s turn.

  • Mocking Quip. Force one creature within 30 ft. to succeed a DC 16 Wis save or suffer disadvantage on its next roll.
  • Explosive Trinket. Throws a cursed coin or bauble; target within 20 ft. makes a DC 16 Dex save or takes 2d6 fire damage and is knocked prone.

Roleplaying Notes

  • Irreverent and playful; often jokes at the worst possible time.
  • Acts as Selvara’s occasional drinking partner and wingman in her debauchery.
  • Provides the laughter and distraction to offset Zeraphiel’s grim tone.
  • When paired with Malrik, he amplifies chaos while Malrik enforces silence.
